Landfill Monitoring

Landfill Monitoring

Electrical systems: -

The signal from a pressure transducer can be utilised for pump control and indication of leachate depth in a well. The analogue signal from the transducer can be digitally encoded and transmitted via a single wire system link to a central base station on the site. The base station can receive information from several wells on a site.

Pneumatic systems:

In wells where pneumatic pumps are installed, the pressure transducer only provides a signal for transmission to a base station as described above.

Landfill Monitoring

In addition to leachate level monitoring, if a pulse flow counter is fitted, we can pick up the number of pulses in a period. This gives a direct indication of the volume of leachate pumped in the period. When added together, the information acquired from the pressure transducer and pulse counter provide an ongoing pump status report.

Base station & data acquisition:

The base station is common to both electrical and pneumatic systems. Its function is to collect data from each well on a system when instructed to do so by the Remote Management System. The base station comprises a programmable controller and modem.

Remote Management System (RMS):

The RMS comprises a computer loaded with facility manager software and a modem. The RMS can be based anywhere in the UK. The modem dials into the system instructing the controller to acquire data from all of the wells. This data is then transmitted back to the computer where it can be transferred into an Excel,

MS Access or other data-processing software package:

  • A Remote Management System can handle data from a multitude of sites.
  • The information acquired from pressure transducers is very reliable and accurate for reporting purposes.
  • Remote monitoring of a leachate pumping system in this way is ideal for closed sites where compliance is critical.
  • Operational sites benefit as site personnel time is freed-up for more profitable activities.
